12.30 p.m.
After visiting my scaled friends on the canal this morning, it’s now time to observe my other buddies, the birds.
More live blogging from the living room and I’m looking forward to seeing what puts in an appearance this time.
12.35 p.m.
Magpie, great tit, blue tit, wood pigeon all visible immediately on neighbouring gardens.
Also, a male chaffinch. Following on from two female sightings recently, that’s great to see.
Male sparrowhawk passed through the garden. That will have an effect on feeding station activity for sure
12.45 p.m.
Female chaffinch also showing, brilliant. Robin in the bush outside the kitchen window.
Still nothing on the feeding station. The sparrowhawk has long since gone but its memory is still very real as far as the other birds are concerned
12.50 p.m.
First bird back, a blue tit. Very quick visit, took a sunflower heart and was off. It’s about balancing the desire to survive with the need to eat.
Next bird on the feeding station, a male great tit. When one takes the lead, others follow.
1.00 p.m.
Activity back to normal on the feeding station. Regular blue tit and both male and female great tit.
Wood pigeon feeding on the lawn beneath the station.
Female sparrowhawk in flight high overhead.
1.15 p.m.
Presumably the same bird, the female sparrowhawk circling over the nearby wooded valley.
1.25 p.m.
Female blackbird in the garden feeding among fallen leaves.
Single lesser black-backed gull in flight low over gardens.
Coal tit feeding on nuts on the station.
1.30 p.m.
Carrion crow in flight.
Another enjoyable hour watching on and getting to know the natural world around our new home.
