Early Morning Canal Session – No Alarm Needed

Going to bed last night, I thought to myself I’ll go fishing in the morning. That was all I needed, as my body stirred naturally at just the right time.

On the canal fishing at first light, the timing was perfect. I caught numerous perch and a couple of roach.

The rod I fished with was a 12’ Greys Prodigy TX and the reel was a Shimano DL2500FA, loaded with 4lb Maxima Chameleon.

Joined by a loop-to-loop knot, there was a two feet length of Ultra Virage fluorocarbon 2.5lb line to a Drennan Super Specialist size 14 hook.

The float was a Drennan 3BB crystal waggler. I fished with double maggot on the hook over brown crumb / loose maggots.

  1. Hi Stewart I am involved with Spider Project a Chester based metal health support initiative. I am trying to get a fishing project off the ground as I believe that angling has many beneficial effects for people suffering from enduring mental health issues or needing some emotional support. We have missed out on a Canal And River Trust `Learn To Fish` session on the Shropshire Union canal which runs through Chester as it is full up but I hope that the CRT will engage with us in the future.
