I also took some fishing gear with me, and straight afterwards, headed for the upper Severn. I caught five species of fish this time round in a busy couple of hours.
It goes without saying that it was much more preferable than being poked right up the nostril and down the back of the throat.
I fished with the following tackle: Fox Barbel Specialist 1.5 test curve rod and a Shimano DL2500FA reel.
The reel was loaded with 4lb Maxima Chameleon straight through to a Kamasan 982 size 18 hook, which was attached via a blood knot.
A size 6 Dinsmores shot and a 5mm ESP shock bead created the six-inch hook-length, with a 1/3 ounce flat lead above the bead.
I fished with a single maggot on the hook and fed balls of brown crumb laced with mixed maggots.
