We’ve certainly had some harsh weather so far in 2020, and that was the case today, as Storm Francis was the latest name to batter the UK.
It’s a case of safety, obviously, when you’re out during adverse conditions, but just because there’s a storm going on, that in itself doesn’t mean you can’t fish.
I fished with the following tackle: Fox Barbel Specialist 1.5 test curve rod and a Shimano DL2500FA reel.
The reel was loaded with 4lb Maxima Chameleon joined to 2lb 8oz Ultima Virage fluorocarbon by a loop-to-loop knot.
The business end was a Drennan Super Specialist size 16 hook, which was attached via a blood knot.
A size 6 Dinsmores shot and a 5mm ESP shock bead created the six-inch hook-length, with a 1/4 ounce bomb above the bead.
I fished with a single white maggot on the hook and fed balls of brown crumb laced with mixed maggots.
