The Final Pre-Season Game, This Time It’s Against Liverpool, The Champions Of England

I’ve enjoyed The New Saints FC’s pre-season campaign (1-6 in the link) and that came to an end today, with a game against Liverpool FC’s U-23s at The Academy.

I can’t mention the score, due to Football Association of Wales rules on behind-closed-doors friendlies. Nevertheless, as he said in the post-match interview, Scott Ruscoe was more than happy with today’s performance.

It wasn’t a new ground, as I’ve seen TNS play the Liverpool U-23s there before. With two new ticks from the six games I’ve been at to date, though, I’m pleased with that.

One of the benefits of working in the beautiful game is that you get to go to places that ordinarily would be out of bounds.

That’s been the case with all my matches so far this season, they’ve all been strictly no general public allowed.

  1. I’m not a Liverpool fan, but for completeness they are currently the reigning English Premier League winners, the holder of the UEFA Champions League and the holder of the FIFA Club World Cup, so perhaps the headline should be Champions of the World?

    1. They’ve had a very good twelve months indeed. You can see why they’re up there with the best when you go behind the scenes.
Be interesting to see how they fare next season. Even if they do win the league, I can’t see such a margin again.
I’m sure, at this stage, though, they’ll settle for just retaining the title full stop.

      1. Em, I thought Man City would dominate again in 2019/20 so I’ll avoid predictions. It seems likely that Pep will respond, but he needs to address that defence.
