A Switch In Approach And A Blank Avoided. Be Flexible And Open To Change, Not Just In Fishing But Life.

With a working football game in Flintshire later in the day, meaning that I needed to leave home early afternoon, I had a quick session on the Staffs/Worcs Canal in the morning. Targeting perch with worm on a size 10 hook, I had several plucks from other fish, but not my intended quarry.

Then, at the end of the session, I switched to a single maggot on a size 16 hook and caught the fish that you can see in the lead image. It wasn’t catching for the sake of it, just to avoid a blank, but nevertheless the change worked.

Flexibility is an important principle, not only in fishing itself, but also life in general. Don’t stick with something just because it’s what you’ve always done. Be open and prepared to try something different.
