Perch Fishing On The Staffs/Worcs Canal. Third Time Lucky, As They Say. Thoughts On Luck.

After a couple of lure sessions that drew a blank, I was back among the fish in a sit-down trip to the Staffs/Worcs Canal.

However, regarding the fish-less trips, I must point out that they were very short, afterwork visits to a lake. The venue doesn’t produce many perch but when it does they are usually decent.

On both occasions I had a brief encounter with a fish but the hook didn’t set and I ended up blanking. That’s the fine line between ‘success’ and ‘failure’ in angling.

Instead of blanks, I could have had a brace of very nice perch. My third session saw me still targeting my favourite species, this time though with legered worm over brown crumb and red maggots.

The days are getting shorter now and although I was up at 6.30 a.m. it was still some time before the sun put in an appearance. I ended the short morning session with a few small perch.

After a couple of blanks it was nice to catch third time round but like life in general, and that includes angling, I don’t believe in luck. Success is far more than throwing darts at a board when you’re blindfolded, hoping that one might hit the bullseye.

After an enjoyable morning it was back home, to shower and change and then off to a JD Cymru Premier game, with The New Saints FC hosting Airbus UK Broughton.
