20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, a Disney classic from 1954 starring James Mason and Kirk Douglas

A 1954 Disney movie, 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea had a budget of $5 million and made $28.2 at the box office. It’s true to say that it was a success.

James Mason plays Captain Nemo, with Kirk Douglas, Paul Lucas and Peter Lorre the unwilling guests on the Nautilus.

Based on a Jules Verne novel and set in 1868, ships are being sunk in the Pacific Ocean by a huge sea monster, which turns out to be Captain Nemo’s submarine.

It’s a very well-known movie, the inspiration of adventure for many young people who watched it and that includes reading the novel as well.

It’s been decades since I watched it as a young boy on television, so it was nice to renew acquaintances again, this time on the Disney channel.
