However, it’s not quite like that is it and the reality is that like all fish you can have red letter days and then other times you think the venue is devoid of anything at all with fins.
I would have thought the latter myself on this session, except for the fact that I was targeting crystal clear, shallow margins and I could see there were several perch there.
Fishing just a few feet from the bank on a small pool, I threw a few maggots in every now and then.
The perch moved in on them, taking just the occasional one, but when it came to the bait with the hook, they stayed well away.
Nevertheless, it was still fascinating watching their behaviour, as well as the bait on the bed of the pool.
