An afternoon session on the Staffordshire/Worcestershire Canal and the first gudgeon of the year

It was one of those where you know the fish are just playing with their food, they’re not ravenous.

It was to be expected though, due to the conditions.

I had lots of roach activity and it was good to get fish – albeit small ones – on the bank.

I also caught a small gudgeon, which was my first of the year.

I’m writing from memory but that means I’ve caught common carp, gudgeon, perch, pike and roach so far in 2023.

Bear in mind though that I’m not on a species hunt.
