The ice has gone but the water’s very cold though, however as long as your bait’s out there you’ve always got a chance

The pool that I was on yesterday was two-thirds frozen but this morning it was totally clear.

Even though the air temperature was zero degrees overnight, it was enough to ensure that the ice was finally gone.

For now, at least, but the forecast looks good for the foreseeable future.

Certainly at this time of the year, it’s about making the most of every opportunity that you can.

The pool I was on is quite shallow and I went for my usual small waggler approach, fishing two maggots on a size 14 hook.

The water was very cold and so I trickled just a few maggots in every time I cast out.
