The Hangman Waits, a clever film blending footage from the movie and real life

It was filmed in a semi-documentary style, in that it regularly switched to real footage from the News Of The World’s printing base.

The film itself dealt with the murder of a young lady, and as the press followed the ongoing drama, the real life printing set-up was used to show the newspaper reporting.

It was a very clever idea and the footage of real life and story blended well.

The murderer was the organist and in the end, tracked by the police he threw himself out of a high window at the newspaper offices and that’s how the film ended, as he dodged the hangman.

John Le Mesurier (Sgt. Wilson in Dad’s Army) has a brief part in the movie.
