Not that it bothers me, but I have had two blanks on the bounce, I thought to myself as I went fishing this morning so it would be nice to get something on the bank.
It was a short first-light session and, with lots of options within a reasonable travel distance from home, I went for a small pool.
Fishing a couple of maggots on a size 14 hook, I was spreading the net wide enough to catch small fish but also being able to deal with anything bigger, should that be the case.
I was casting just one rod length from the bank, so a small waggler easily gave the weight needed.
It was a calm start to the day as far as the weather was concerned, and with just a tiny amount of the float showing, it was still very visible.
