The canals, ponds and pools are frozen at the moment but the streams and rivers are still functioning as before.
So, after my last session on the upper Severn in pursuit of chub, I was inspired to again pursue chevins but this time on the middle.
I went late afternoon, with the intention of going through into dark.
However, once the sun set it became impossible to fish, as the rod rings kept freezing up with blocks of ice.
I cleared them but on every cast, all the water that made contact with the rod itself instantly froze.
If you live in the UK, you won’t need reminding of how cold it is at the moment.
