A pine hawk-moth caterpillar on the South Staffordshire Railway Walk

The caterpillar in question is a pine hawk-moth.

They are more common in the south and east of England, so it’s nice to find one in the midlands.

As it was in danger of getting crushed by walkers or cyclists, I took it from the path and placed it in the safer area alongside.
