The great outdoors on my doorstep – Welcome to Cotwall End Valley

It’s not named after a person but takes its name from a mining term.

Along the heavily wooded eastern slope, there were four small mine workings.

The last one operated up to the 1950s and there are concrete caps still visible from when they were closed.

When we moved to the area right at the end of 2020, I did some research and found out lots of interesting things.

The collieries were particularly fascinating but fortunately, as far as our home is concerned, we are safe from any post-mining issues.
