Watching birds, patience on the road and sorry I couldn’t answer the phone, I was wrestling with an eel

I fished with 6lb line straight through to a size 14 hook and two maggots.

The lead was 1/2 ounce and I nipped on a size 8 shot with a 5mm bead.

I mixed maggots in with the brown crumb, keeping it fairly stiff as the water is deep, even just two lengths out.

I caught a roach early on and then it went quiet for a spell before picking up again and that’s how it continued for the rest of the session.

I was there for the best part of four hours, which certainly made the journey to work worthwhile.
