The evening before though is when the huge bonfires, that Northern Ireland has become associated with, are lit.
Staying in south Belfast, I had already been for a walk along Donegall Pass early evening and I returned much later, as bonfires were lit.
Some are in fields, areas of wasteland and others, when space is tight, are across the road itself!
The one that I visited was off the main road and there were large numbers of local residents out on the street talking and socialising.
