My All-Time Wolverhampton Wanderers Legends – Billy Wright (4/5)

On the international stage, Billy Wright made his England debut in 1946, against Ireland.

Two years later he was captain, and went on to become the first player to win 100 England caps.

The previous record held by Bob Crompton was 41, which was passed in 1952.

Although Billy Wright’s figure has now been extended even further by several others, he was the first hit the magical mark and that will always be his achievement.

He also played in seventy consecutive full internationals, as he eventually hit 105.
