The cold spell continues and numerous conversations with fellow anglers confirm, not that we need reminding, just how tough things are at the moment.
You have to be in it to win it though, and I’ve been out every day so far this year.
Considering the conditions, I’ve been more than happy with my catches and that was the case again today.
Back on a small brook, in pursuit of sticklebacks, I did well with both quality and quantity.

The tackle fished with was as follows:
Poachers Pocket mini-rod and reel.
Reel line was 4lb Maxima Chameleon, leading to Ultima Virage 1lb 6oz fluorocarbon, joined by a loop-to-loop knot.
There was a size 6 shot about six inches from the hook.
The hook was a Drennan Super Specialist size 18 with a single white maggot as bait.
I use a white maggot as it stands out better in the water.
