My Best Stickleback Session Ever, In The Worst Conditions – It Just Goes To Show, As Long As Your Bait’s In The Water…

I enjoyed yesterday’s short session after sticklebacks so much, I went back for more of the same today.

Plus, I knew that I had a busy day of work ahead of me, so a quick visit to the brook suited me perfectly.

The waterway was the worst I’ve ever seen it, in terms of condition.

It had gone from a tiny brook to a stream, carrying lots of extra water that didn’t look good at all.

It was grey, the colour of piscatorial death.

In addition, the water was freezing due to the snow melt.

I’ve read several times over the years where anglers have turned up at a venue and left, without even fishing, because of the conditions.

However, I’m a great believer that, as long as your bait’s in the water you’ve got a chance.

That was the case today. The worst I’ve ever seen the brook but the best session I’ve ever had after sticklebacks.

I lost count of the fish I caught and several of them were specimens. Absolute monsters, in fact.

The tackle I fished with was as follows:

Poachers Pocket mini-rod and reel.

Reel line was 4lb Maxima Chameleon, leading to Ultima Virage 1lb 6oz fluorocarbon, joined by a loop-to-loop knot.

There was a size 4 shot about six inches from the hook.

The hook was a Kamasan 982 size 18 and a single white maggot as bait.
