I added a new mammal to my garden tick list early this morning – 5.00 a.m. to be precise.
I was woken by my wife looking out the window, with my dog growling.
‘What’s happening?’, I asked her. ‘I heard a muntjac barking’, she replied.
Looking out myself, I saw it.
We have them in the immediate area, and I see them regularly, but to get one for my garden nature list – where the rule is I have to see it from home – was brilliant.
This afternoon, I did some birding from the new room upstairs.
As I mention in the video, I saw a wren the other day in the garden, so that’s a new bird for the year.
Today’s sightings were as follows, with new ticks in bold.
wood pigeon, stock dove, great tit (m, f), magpie, chaffinch (m, f) blackbird (m, f), robin, dunnock, carrion crow, herring gull, goldfinch, great spotted woodpecker (f), lesser black-backed gull,
The chaffinches were out in number, with three females and two males seen at one time.
I also saw a brown rat.
