With no football in Wales at the moment, due to a COVID-inspired league suspension, I had more time on the bank this morning than I normally do on January 1.
Instead of getting a really short lure session in, before I set off for the game that was originally scheduled between Cefn Druids and The New Saints, I was able to have a couple of hours on the canal.
The float fishing outing, on the Staffordshire/Worcestershire Canal, was very productive.
There’s more in the accompanying video, but the first fish of the year was a gudgeon, the biggest of the session was the perch in the lead image, and I also caught roach.
If you’ve been out fishing yourself today, I hope you’ve had a good one!
As far as I’m concerned, as always, I’m starting the year how I intend to continue.
Especially so this year, as I’ll be sixty in 2022, and that’s going to be a key player in my working life, as far as personal plans are concerned.
Back to today, though, and I want to wish you a very happy New Year. I hope that 2022 will be your best yet.
Today’s tackle and approach:
Greys Prodigy 12’ rod and a Shimano 3500 reel loaded with Maxima Chameleon 4lb line.
There was 4 feet length of 3lb 8oz Drennan Team England joined by a loop-to-loop knot.
The float was a 0.6g Drennan Crystal Waggler. The hook was a Drennan Super Specialist size 18.
I fished the boat channel, with brown crumb and mixed maggots and single white maggot on the hook.
