I was undecided whether to go fishing at first thing on the canal, or do some lure angling on the way to work later.
When I woke before six o’clock though, that settled it. I loaded the car while the kettle boiled and set off for the canal – after scraping the windshield first.
Although the days are quite warm, the nights are chilly and it’s standard to scrape before I set off.
It was nice to get my first rudd of 2021 on the bank, and that was followed by a more common canal species, the roach.
Just small fish, so I didn’t photograph them. There is an accompanying video that I recorded from the water’s edge.
I fished with a Greys Prodigy 12’ rod and a Shimano 3500 reel loaded with Maxima Chameleon 4lb line.
There was 5 feet length of 2lb 8oz Ultima Virage fluorocarbon joined by a loop-to-loop knot.
The float was a 0.6g Drennan Crystal Waggler. The hook was a Drennan Super Specialist size 18.
I fished the boat channel, with brown crumb and mixed maggots and single white maggot on the hook.
