I was up at 6.00 a.m. today with no need for the alarm. In no time at all, I had made a flask, loaded the car, and made my way to one of the stretches on the local canal.
Although the days are fairly warm, the nights are still chilly, and obviously that affects the fishing. Just putting your hand in the water is a reminder that the temperature is not where it should be at this time of the year.
I’m a great believer that as long as your bait’s in the water though, you’ve always got a chance. That was the case today, as small roach obliged.
I did record a video but it’s very short. Less than a minute is well below my usual angling lengths. I just thought I’d do something different, more text in the blog entry and less footage.
I do think sometimes, shall I drop the videos and just write. Then I ponder the other end of the scale and consider just a vlog on YouTube.
Invariably, though, I return to the middle ground of both. That seems to be the happy medium.
I fished with a Greys Prodigy 12’ rod and a Shimano 3500 reel loaded with Maxima Chameleon 4lb line.
There was 5 feet length of 2lb 8oz Ultima Virage fluorocarbon joined by a loop-to-loop knot.
The float was a 0.6g Drennan Crystal Waggler. The hook was a Drennan Super Specialist size 18.
I fished the boat channel, with brown crumb and mixed maggots and single white maggot on the hook.
