Having found the net twice in the 4-1 victory for The New Saints against Caernarfon Town, Blaine Hudson was a natural choice for the post-game interview.
The other candidate was Ryan Brobbel, who also scored two. As I said to him though after the game, we had already chatted earlier in the week, so Blaine edged it.
Plus, Blaine’s a centre-half, so a brace from a defender is always a special occasion.
After the interview, on the pitch at Park Hall, he said to me that the last time he scored two in a game was when he played for Wrexham AFC against Forest Green Rovers.
He also described how he went so close to grabbing a hat-trick.
Back to the TNS match, I would imagine that if a penalty had been awarded late in the game – especially as Brobbel had been substituted – Hudson would have been making his way up from the back to take it.
