I woke naturally again this morning, with no need of an alarm clock. It was 5.09 a.m. though, so I did have a lie-in before finally stirring from the pit.
It was a very wet and windy session and especially the latter caused bite detection to be an issue.
After missing a few weeks due to illness at the start of the month though, I’m just glad to be out and about regardless of the conditions.
I fished with a 9’ John Wilson Masterline Debut rod and a Shimano 3500 reel, loaded with 4lb Maxima Chameleon.
The lead was a 1/4 ounce bomb, with a size 6 shot and 5mm bead. The hook was a Drennan Super Specialist size 16.
I fished with two maggots over mixed maggots and brown crumb.

Seems a lot heavy for winter canal fishing. Would look to 0.8 extra hooklengths.
I’ve been fishing 1lb 6oz hook lengths recently. However, as I’m targeting bigger perch now, that’s why I’m using 4lb line.
