I saw common buzzard on a few occasions prior to the New Year. We live near the bottom of a valley, and from the living room window, we have a wide expanse of wooded area in front of us.
It took till now though to spot the first one of 2021. Like the others, it was soaring above the tree line at the top of the valley opposite.
A day later, I saw another sighting, that flew low over the garden being mobbed by a gull.
The second new tick – a little egret – was also spotted from the living room. In flight, it was low – and close – enough, to identify with the natural eye.
We do have a fair amount of water in the wider area, so hopefully I’ll add other water-based birds during the year.
