Inseparable In Life And Now Together In Eternity

Yesterday, we said our final farewells to Rosemary, my mother-in-law. Although I’m no longer a full-time minister, nevertheless I still renew my credentials annually, and I took the funeral service.

When I first met Rosemary, she was in her forties, a good decade younger than I am now. It’s a reminder that time waits for no one.

During the service, I listed the fruit of the Spirit, as recorded in the book of Galatians, and in particular kindness was the one that stood out for me when I think of my mother-in-law.

She was very quiet and wouldn’t be found on street corners preaching the gospel, or even at the front of the church on a Sunday morning.

However, she was faithful and whatever was going on, she was always there.

The last time I saw Rosemary was when she was in hospital. We had just been told that she had cancer, and that it was terminal, and death was imminent.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, not even my wife – although we didn’t know that at the time – saw her mom again after that day.

My last interaction with Rosemary was when we talked and prayed, and before leaving her alone for the final time with Debby, I told her that I loved her.

You never know when the words that you speak to someone will be the last. That’s why we need to speak kind words.

It’s been ten years since she lost her husband, Tom. They were inseparable in life and now they’re together in eternity.

RIP Rosemary.
