Looking Forward To Exploring The Natural World From Our Forever Home

I wrote in a recent blog that November was going to be a month of change and that included moving house.

Having taken out my first mortgage when I was eighteen, moving has been much easier because there’s no chain and you don’t have immediate monthly financial commitments on that front.

One of the very first things we have done is to establish a feeding station so that we can attract birds into the garden.

I asked my wife, Debby, what will be our very first bird? She went for robin, I opted for blue tit. It was actually the latter, as a bird landed on the nuts, within minutes of us talking.

If you look closely at the lead image, though, you can see a visiting robin on the food tray.

The photograph was taken from the living room window. What a lovely view it is as well, it’s like having your own personal deluxe hide.

Next year I’m going to do a January to December blog based on what I see from the house. Not just birds either but nature in general.

Our new home is in a semi-rural setting, and the countryside is almost on our doorstep, as we are just two other houses away from ancient woodland.

I’m really looking forward to seeing what the natural world blesses us with, not just in the garden itself, but from the wider area.

For now though, here’s a list of birds seen so far, listed in order of appearance:

Blue tit, robin, dunnock, wood pigeon, great tit, blackbird, wren, mistle thrush, common buzzard, grey heron, coal tit, magpie, collared dove, carrion crow, starling, sparrowhawk, house sparrow, chaffinch.
