Another Morning And Another Short Canal Angling Session

I’ve created a new pathway the last week or so, as I wake early, have an hour canal fishing and then carry on with the rest of the day.

I’ve got a working football game later today and the pattern’s the same, as I was dropping a bait into the water well before the sun popped its head above the horizon.

Actually, we may not see the big, bright orange object in the sky at all today. It’s very grey and overcast, as I look out the window right now, and it looks very much like it’s that way for a while.

It’s also raining as well and as I drove to the canal, I knew that the SW wind direction would have raised the temperature.

In fact, it was up more than I had thought, as the reading was a very positive 9.4C. If you’ve been following my recent blog entries, you’ll know that the daily readings have been all over the place.

However, although the water temperature looked good this morning, I still blanked.

I do put a lot of emphasis on the thermometer readings, especially at this time of the year, but there are numerous other factors as well to take into consideration.

Just as much as you can blank when the water temperature is good, you can also catch when it isn’t.

My tackle set-up was the same as listed in the other blog entries. I managed a few extremely slight taps on the rod but that was all.

I was fishing off brickwork, and as you can see from the lead image, just a few inches from the edge.

I dropped the bait, then tightened slowly so that there was just a very slight slack. That way you can watch the line as well as the rod tip.

Anyway, on with the rest of the day. I’m typing this while I have my tea and toast for breakfast and the next leg of today’s journey is The New Saints FC v Aberystwyth Town, in the JD Cymru Premier.

If you’re doing nothing this afternoon, you can listen to commentary on the TNS FC Facebook page. Kick-off is 2.30 p.m. I look forward to your company.
