If you’ve seen the movie, Groundhog Day, you’ll know that every morning Bill Murray wakes up and does the same thing.
That’s me at the moment with my canal perch fishing, even down to location, as I’ve got a shoal of my favourite species waiting for me.
There’s more in the video below, as well as the usual thoughts, tips and pointers.
I fished with a Greys G Lite spinning rod (4-8lb) and a Shimano DL2500FA reel.
Maxima Chameleon 4lb line went straight through to a Drennan Super Specialist size 16 hook.
The hook length was created by a 5mm bead and a size 6 shot. The lead was a 1/4 ounce bomb.
I fished with double maggot and fed maggots / brown crumb.
The water temperature was 11.3C, up from 10.5C yesterday.

Some good perch first fish I ever caught.Still love them
Nice one. Not my first fish but my favourite.
My first one was a gudgeon from the Bratch on the Staffs/Worcs Canal.
Many years ago but I can remember it like it was this morning.
Still hooked!
Hope you’re ok, John.
Groundhog Day? Tom Hanks?
Well spotted! Bill Murray! I’ll change that now. It’s one of my favourite movies as well!
