Jr Walker And The All Stars – My Favourite Track

Autry DeWalt Mixon is not a name that many music lovers will be familiar with and I’d include soul fans in with that as well.

However, when you use the stage name Jr Walker, that’s different. Throw in the All Stars and now you’re talking.

Far more successful in the USA than this side of the pond, they only reached the charts six times in the UK.

The 1965 song (I’m A) Road Runner was their biggest hit, peaking at number twelve.

Four years later they released What Does It Take (To Win Your Love). Reaching number thirteen, that’s the one that does it for me.

Walk In The Night, although not their best-seller either in the States (46) or the UK (16) is the one that made it on Motown Gold.

What Does It Take (To Win Your Love) features on Motown Chartbusters Vol. 4 and you can listen to it on Spotify via the link below.

This is the eighteenth My Favourite Track blog entry, check out the others.

  1. Saw Jr Walker twice Stewart both times he ended on his back playing his sax. Favourite track? I think for me `Shoot Your Shot`

          1. Yes indeed!! they were a tight unit led by an enigmatic frontman whose prowess with the saxophone drew critical praise from those in the jazz world.
