As well as my work-related gear, as I loaded the car in the morning I also added some fishing tackle. Fortunately, I do have safe parking at work so that’s not an issue.
Once everything had been completed – covering players in the gym, a game against Salford City, post-match interview, videos, setting up TNS Radio for the new season – it was off to the River Severn.
You can follow the session via the video and if you’re new to my website you can subscribe to the regular blog updates below.
I caught six species of fish on the session: 30 chub, 12 dace, 10 bleak, 10 roach, 3 gudgeon, 1 minnow. Not bad for a quick visit.
I fished with the following tackle: Fox Barbel Specialist 1.5 test curve rod and a Shimano DL2500FA reel.
The reel was loaded with 4lb Maxima Chameleon straight through to a Drennan Super Specialist size 18 hook, which was attached via a blood knot.
A size 6 Dinsmores shot and a 5mm ESP shock bead created the six-inch hook-length, with a 1/3 ounce flat lead above the bead.
I fished with a single maggot on the hook and fed balls of brown crumb laced with mixed maggots.

You’ve got to like a session of Species Bingo!
Clive
Indeed, Clive. One of the club’s I’m in had a species hunt recently. I was looking forward up getting involved but it dropped on the weekend I went back to work.
I’m thinking of doing my own though at some point in the future.
Hi Stewart I may be wrong? but I can`t recollect you having a session after the eel this Summer. I guess there is still time if September is fairly warm. Tight lines.
Hello, Dave. You’re correct, in fact I haven’t been eel for a while.
Too many things on the wish-list but not enough days in the week!
Maybe next year now!

Eels fascinate me, my brother John though hates them, he hates snakes as well so maybe he connects the two. Yes, I appreciate so little time so much to do. tight Lines
Sounds good. They’re fascinating indeed, wonderful life story.
