As well as my work bag and laptop, I also loaded the car with some fishing gear in the morning, as I made my way across the A5 to Park Hall, the home of The New Saints FC.
Once I’d got everything done, I then headed across country to the upper River Severn. I love the smaller, more intimate feel of the river at that end.
The scenery is inspiring in itself. Plus, it’s in Wales. It certainly ticks all the boxes as far as I’m concerned.
I fished with the following tackle: Fox Barbel Specialist 1.5 test curve rod and a Shimano DL2500FA reel.
The reel was loaded with 4lb Maxima Chameleon straight through to a Drennan Super Specialist size 16 hook, which was attached via a blood knot.
A size 6 Dinsmores shot and a 5mm ESP shock bead created the six-inch hook-length, with a 1/4 ounce bomb above the bead.
I fished with a single white maggot on the hook and fed balls of brown crumb and white bread laced with mixed maggots.
