Live Blogging Through The Night – Carp Fishing In The Midlands

7.50 p.m. Good evening and welcome to a lake which will be home for the next few hours. I’ll be posting regular updates and, as always, you can join me via the comments box below.

8.15 p.m. It’s going to be a very nice night, weather-wise. With a low of 15C, light winds from the SE and zero percent chance of rain, the boxes are all ticked.

Will it be just as pleasant though, as far as the fishing is concerned? Time will tell.

I’ve seen carp cruising in the area and I’ve got total confidence in my rigs, baits and presentation.

In other words, I’ve done my bit. It’s now down to the fish, so to speak.

8.45 p.m. Even though I love our feathered friends, not so much when they’re over my baited spots.

I saw the coots off by waving my landing net in the air and making noises. Now it’s the mute swans’ turn to pester me.

9.35 p.m. Well into dusk and I’d say this is now the time when the odds start to move more favourably in the direction of the angler.

It isn’t a runs water though, far from it. As always, though, be realistic, but within the framework of positivity. Like life itself.

10.30 p.m. I do love night fishing, always have. As you can imagine, I’ve got plenty of tales to tell over the years.

I’m often asked if I get scared being out at night, on my own. The answer is no.

11.00 p.m. I’ve just thrown a handful of boilies over each spot. Not that it wasn’t before but the waiting game really begins now.

12.40 a.m. I didn’t have to wait too long either. Off the mark with the common that is now also the lead image.

The fish didn’t go on a run but it was extremely stubborn, holding its ground and digging its heels in, so to speak.

In the end though, I won. In the net, on the mat, a photograph and it’s now gone back.

4.00 a.m. Carp on… unfortunately a hook-pull this time. It didn’t feel like a massive fish though, plus I’ve already caught, so it’s not the same as when you’ve yet to open your account.

6.45 a.m. No more action, other than to pack away and head for home. Happy to be on the right side of the line again, though, as far as carp are concerned.

  1. Going to be a warm one tonight, probably better off by the lake then trying to sleep in a muggy room. Hope you have a busy night 👍

    1. Nice one, John.
I’m hopeful, as always, with a dose of realism, as it isn’t a runs water.
Still, as long as your bait’s in the water.
