I fancied doing some small brook fishing today and, with sticklebacks on my mind, I targeted a waterway that I have fished recently.
The short session was captured on video, and for those who like the longer ones, hopefully this will hit the spot.
The best fish, which is a cracker, is the one in the lead image above. Especially when you consider the venue that it came from, it’s a monster. A fantastic session, indeed.
I’m seriously considering getting some scales to weigh the mini-species, as there are records waiting to be broken, for sure.

The tackle I fished with was as follows: Poachers Pocket mini-rod and reel. Reel line was 4lb Maxima Chameleon, leading to Ultima Virage 1lb 6oz fluorocarbon, joined by a loop-to-loop knot.
I nipped a size 4 shot on the line and the hook was a Drennan Super Specialist micro barbed size 18. Bait was a single red maggot.

PS – interesting you mentioned Hampton Loade. I used to go there when u was a kid ( early 80s) with my pond dipping net. It is where I caught minnows and stone Loach.

Another great blog and video. That larger stickleback was quite large; looked 3” long or so. It looked like a small perch!
