I’m Looking Forward To Getting One Or Two On The Bank – Fishing The Middle Severn In Shropshire

In the opening clip of the video, I say that, “I’m looking forward to getting one or two on the bank.”

Famous last words, as they say. I spent hours fishing without getting anything other than small fish plucking the bait.

That’s fishing though, and regardless of the type of angling that we pursue, there will always be the occasional blank, as well as lots of sessions where we struggle to catch just one or two.

That’s where our appreciation of the big picture becomes important. Naturally, I don’t want too many fish-less trips, but when they do come along it doesn’t affect me.

As you can see from the video though, I did capture a couple of military helicopters that flew overhead.

In addition, there’s a mandarin duck family and a mammal burrowing right beneath where I sat.

I was filming the latter in the hope that it would show itself. However, even though it was close to the surface, it didn’t.

My guess is a rat or a vole, based on size of movement and location.

Nevertheless, as far as the fishing was concerned, all was not lost. Taking my mini-rod and reel with me, I also had a very productive session afterwards, with some interesting fish on the bank.

That’s for the next blog entry though, so as they say, watch this space.

Tackle was a Fox Barbel Special 11’ rod and an Okuma Zeon reel. The 6lb Maxima Chameleon went straight through.

The six-inch hook-length was created by a size 6 Dinsmores shot and a 5mm ESP bead. The cage feeder was a Drennan 15g and the hook a Drennan Super Specialist size 10.

I fished worm on the hook and filled the cage feeder with brown crumb and red maggots.
