Live Blogging Through The Night – Fishing A Gravel Pit In The Midlands

7.30 p.m. Welcome to home for the next twelve hours. This is a tough place to fish as it is, without the dense weed that’s everywhere.

Still, my baits are in the water, and that means I’ve got a chance. There’s more on the venue via the video below, including my previous catches from here.

8.15 p.m. Now that the wind has dropped and the surface is still, the extent of the weed problem becomes even more obvious.

I’m always positive, but you have to be realistic as well, and this is going to be a challenge. It’s a good job I don’t fish once a month.

Fishing every day (as I am at the moment, while on furlough) means it’s not a big thing.

9.30 p.m. In spite of the weed, the coots and tufted ducks have found the baits. Normally not what you want but if they can find them, why not a fish? There’s hope for me yet.

10.45 p.m. The pit is extremely still. I do choose these tough sessions for live blogging, don’t I.

Of course, though, that’s the nature of it. You can’t blog a session when you’re catching a fish every minute or so.

11.55 p.m. No fish yet but no rats either. The place is normally overrun with them.

Some years ago, I dozed off on the bedchair and I woke up to find a rat right next to my face. That was a close encounter you don’t want to experience too often.

12.05 a.m. Happy July! We’re now into the second half of 2020. The older you get, time certainly flies for sure.

Talking of flying, I still live in hope that one of the rods, at least, will come alive.

3.45 a.m. Not even a flicker on the alarms during the hours of darkness. The dawn chorus is underway now, with lots of different birds all joining in.

8.00 a.m. A case of weed stopped play. Out and about yourself, today? I hope your lines are tighter than mine were.

    1. Not sure, Gary. I’m still trying to fit everything in I want to and I can’t – and I’m on furlough!

  1. Tench above 8 or a double figure Bream would be very welcome I’m sure! Just about to watch your latest tench fishing video…..my favourite species.
