Another Day And Another Early Start On The Canal After Perch

I have done a lot of canal fishing since the restrictions were eased. Living where I do, I have miles of towpaths within a reasonable travelling distance.

I have done a few sessions elsewhere but the local canal system has certainly been my focus. I’ve enjoyed it, and that’s why I’ve been on the cut, as it’s known locally.

This time, as previously, I didn’t need the alarm clock to wake me. I’ve been stirring naturally and been at the water’s edge bright and early.

Although perch were my target again, I didn’t catch any big fish. Regardless of that though, it was another pleasurable session, and there’s more via the video below.

I fished with the following tackle: John Wilson Masterline 9’ Debut rod and a Shimano DL2500FA reel.

The reel was loaded with 4lb Maxima Chameleon and this went straight through to a Drennan Super Specialist size 10 hook, which was attached via a blood knot.

A size 6 Dinsmores shot and a 5mm ESP shock bead created the six-inch hook-length, with a 1/4 ounce bomb above the bead.

Bait was worm over red maggots. With dense reeds along the far bank, I cast two-thirds of the way across the canal.
