R Is For Racecourse Ground – Memories From Working In The World Of Football 2019

The home of Wrexham AFC, I’ve seen three games at the Racecourse Ground, all in recent years. One featured Wales playing Trinidad & Tobago in a friendly and another was a working one, when I covered a Welsh Cup final in 2015. That was my first ever visit.

The final occasion was for a UEFA Europa League game, when The New Saints FC played there last year against the champions of Bulgaria, PFC Ludogorets.

From planning meetings, the UEFA delegate’s meeting, training and the game itself, I made a number of visits during the week in question. It’s a good set-up and I enjoyed the wider experience, if not the result.

The 4-0 defeat, added to the 5-0 the previous week in Bulgaria, meant that the 2019/2020 European adventures came to an abrupt end for the champions of Wales.

The video below is a behind-the-scenes look at the day of the game itself. The image on the video is of five TNS FC players not involved and the lead photograph at the top of the page is the tunnel at the ground, leading out to the pitch.
