It’s always gone on but especially so in the day and age of social media, you get people who try and dictate to others how they should live their lives.
On a basic level in terms of human interaction, I believe very much in live and let live. Unless someone is doing something that has a direct bearing on my life, it’s up to them what they do.
My sermon at Tipton Family Church this morning was from Galatians 5:1… ‘Christ has set us free to live a free life. Never again let anyone put a harness of slavery on you.’

Social media is an example. It’s your Facebook account, for example, post what you want. I see comments from people saying looking at plates of food annoys them (some people post images of what they eat), or they’re sick of constant shots of other people’s kids being posted.
My thoughts are, it’s your account, post what you like. You can’t avoid posting things of that nature just because someone may not like it.
I used examples from my own social media presence. I post regular selfies and most of my activity is fishing and football related. No-one has said anything to me, by the way, so I’m not having a ‘dig’ back but I’m sure someone somewhere has something to say. It’s inevitable, it’s what people do.
It doesn’t bother me though, that’s the point. We can’t allow ourselves to become enslaved because of other people.
You shouldn’t stop posting images of trains, for example, because someone called you a bore and mocks you. If you have a hobby or an interest or you use your social media presence in a particular way, that’s up to you and no-one else.
In the right context and in the nicest possible way we should not care about what others think.
We also live in a day and age where some people get offended on behalf of others, even if the original person doesn’t care. I posted a mother–in-law joke which some may not like… However, both my wife and mother-in-law saw it and thought it was funny.
When I first joined The New Saints I was on air with the chairman, Mike Harris, and I said to him that my mother-in-law was listening in and would he send her a message. He said that she should come to a game, it’s not far along the A5 on a broomstick.
She thought it was funny, she certainly wasn’t offended at all. So if she wasn’t bothered why should someone else be concerned. Not that I know that anyone was but you get the point I’m making.
Don’t allow people to enslave your mind. As far as I’m concerned, and back to the verse from the Bible, if God wants me to be free I’m certainly not going to allow a mere mortal to lock me up.
